What We Do
CCHF develops, supports and engages in activities that contribute to the enhancement of the health and well being of residents of the Canton community.
The CCHF is a private foundation that receives gifts and bequests from individuals for the benefit of residents of the Canton area. The memorial donations to the Canton Visiting Nurse Association were the basis for the establishment of the fund when the VNA joined with McLean in 1997.
The CCHF is run by a volunteer board of community members that oversee the investment of the fund, funds programs, and distributes grants to a wide array of nonprofit organizations that enhance the health and well being of the residents of the Town of Canton. The CCHF also oversees the Dr. Diter’s Memorial Scholarship Fund.
The CCHF develops, supports and engages in activities such as education programs or services that contribute to the enhancement of the health and well being of residents of Canton and the community as a whole. The CCHF has sponsored speakers and has given grants to many town organizations such as the Canton Food Bank, Focus on Canton, Canton Parents as Teachers (CPAT), Canton Community of Concern, Canton Connections, Canton High School Substance Free Graduation Party, Canton Volunteer Fire & EMS for the purchase of a new state of the art Stryker stretcher for the new ambulance to name a few.
The Dr. Diter’s Memorial Scholarship Fund began when a local general practioner retired and suggested that donations be made to the Canton Visiting Nurse Scholarship Fund in his honor instead of a gift. This fund provides grants on an annual basis to individuals planning to pursue a career in the medical field. A recipient must be a resident of the Town of Canton and/or a graduate of Canton High School. The first recipient of this grant after it became the Dr. Diter’s Memorial Scholarship Fund is now a pediatrician.
