The Canton Community Health Fund Announces the 2010 Recipients of the Dr. Diters Memorial Scholarship

Two graduating Canton High School seniors with plans to pursue a career in health related fields receive grants at the annual Awards Breakfast. The Directors of the Canton Community Health Fund announced at the Canton High School awards breakfast the names of this year’s recipients of the Dr. Diters Memorial Scholarship. The Dr. Diters Memorial Scholarship provides annual financial grants to residents of Canton based on merit, scholarship and community commitment. To qualify for this prestigious award, a recipient must be either a graduating senior of Canton High School, or a resident of the Town of Canton, who is planning to pursue a career in a health related field.

This year’s scholarship awards were presented to Ms. Sarah Getz and Mr. Kevin Soucey. Both are class of 2010 Canton High School graduates who have demonstrated high academic achievement, commitment to the community, and have plans to pursue their education in a health related field.

Ms. Getz is graduating in the top 10% of the senior class academically. She has won numerous academic and athletic awards and has also given her time to charitable organizations during her four years at Canton High School. She plans to attend the The University of Pittsburgh
School of Nursing this fall.

Mr. Soucey also places in the top 10% of the senior class academically and has received numerous academic honors and awards. He has been accepted to the Pharmacy/Health Sciences Honors Program at the Bouvre College of Health Sciences. This is a five year program of study at Northwest University.

Since its founding, the Dr. Diters Memorial Scholarship Fund has been a source of financial support for the further education of numerous Canton residents. This scholarship fund is administered by the Board of Directors of the Canton Community Health Fund which awards the scholarship annually to selected Canton High School graduates. As a sign of its success, the first recipient of this award is now a practicing pediatrician.
