New ‘Pay It Forward’ Scholarship Announced!

Canton, CT March 1, 2024…. Canton Community Health Fund, Inc. (CCHF), opened its Grant and Scholarship application season today. CCHF encourages non-profits serving the Canton community to apply for Community Partner grants. Canton High School Seniors and other residents seeking higher education in the healthcare, public service or public safety fields are invited to apply for scholarships.

Applications are available online at www.cantoncommunityhealthfund.org.  Deadline for submissions is April 30, 2024. Community Partner Grant and Scholarship awards will be announced June/2024.

In 2023, CCHF awarded nearly $45,000 in Community Partner Grants and scholarships. CCHF Chair Sylvia Cancela: “CCHF’s Board considers these awards as investments that will continue to positively impact our neighbors, friends and families now and into the future.”

In 2024, CCHF is offering three funding opportunities, including a new scholarship option:

COMMUNITY PARTNER GRANTS: Focusing on proactive development, enrichment and support of educational opportunities and services, CCHF’s Community Partners have enhanced food security; provided critical fuel assistance; sponsored substance-free programming for youth; offered physical and mental well-being through recreational empowerment for individuals of all abilities; and purchased lifesaving emergency tools, equipment, supplies for Canton’s First Responders.

Non-profits wishing to be considered as 2024 CCHF Community Partners can apply at www.cantoncommunityhealthfund.org.  Applications are due by April 30, 2024.

DITER’S LEGACY SCHOLARSHIPS: Dr. Edward Diters, a veteran Air Force Flight Surgeon, was Canton’s small-town physician, serving our community from his offices on Dowd Avenue. Upon his retirement, after 40 years, a scholarship fund was created to both recognize his commitment to public health, and to also inspire future generations to follow his path into the healthcare field.

DR. DITER’S LEGACY SCHOLARSHIP applications are available at www.cantoncommunityhealthfund.org. Applications are due by April 16, 2024.

NEW for 2024! PAY IT FORWARD SCHOLARSHIPS: In 1968, CCHF’s Legacy organization, Canton Visiting Nurse Association (CVNA), established a ‘Canton Public Health Service Scholarship’ for residents pursuing higher education in public health. A 1980 follow-up study found that over 75% of Scholarship recipients were ‘Paying It Forward’ by working in: analytical chemistry, psychology, nursing, rehabilitation, physical and respiratory therapies.

In 2024, CCHF celebrates the spirit of CVNA’s commitment to Canton’s future by providing a New scholarship to Canton residents (post-high school), pursuing further education, training or certification in healthcare, public safety, or public service so they too can ‘Pay It Forward’ to our community.

PAY IT FORWARD SCHOLARSHIP applications are available at www.cantoncommunityhealthfund.org. Applications are due by April 30, 2024.
